2. The stops of the organ

You have now arrived at the second stop of our tour. You can sit for a moment on the seats available at this point.

The organ at Musiikkitalo has 124 stops. A stop refers to a set of pipes that share a similar specific timbre. So, the organ at Musiikkitalo has 124 different tonal colors, and, for example, each orchestral instrument has its own stop here that mimics its sound.

Additional tonal colors can be created almost endlessly by combining different stops.

You can now listen to examples of organ’s sounds by selecting options that appear on your device. Each example has been played using a different stop or combination of stops.
