Saint Alexander Hotovytsk

Alexander Hotovitzky was a martyr and the vicar of the Orthodox Parish of Helsinki during the difficult time of the First World War, between 1914-1917. He was executed in 1937 during Soviet purges and later canonized in 1994. During his time as the vicar he left a great impact to the Uspenski Cathedral and as such the crypt chapel of the cathedral is devoted to him.

Before his time in Finland, he also worked as a priest in America and Berlin, Germany.
