Tuija Arminen - In the Theatre

Painting

*Our favorite*

”I’m drawn to the colours, composition, and atmosphere of the work. It is a woodcut, and printmaking has always fascinated me. The bunk beds bring back childhood memories. I used to sleep in one with my sister at the summer cottage and in a caravan. When I was younger, I always wanted the top bunk, but nowadays the lower one feels more appealing. I first grew fond of this piece years ago, and I still find myself admiring it.”

Tuija Arminen’s (b. 1968 Orimattila) art is all about observing ordinary life. There are often children and room interiors symbolizing state of mind. “The room is a stage. The walls rule out everything irrelevant and frame the world inside them.” In the Theatre looks like a painting but is actually a woodcut, like many of Arminen’s large artworks.
