Resurrection of Nature
2022
linseed oil, pigment, tar
Eemil Karila’s work Resurrection of Nature is a manifesto in favor of nature. Whatever humans leave behind, nature ultimately prevails. The grass and stems swaying in the wind can also be interpreted as symbols of people - at first they stand out clearly, almost individually, but as the eye moves toward the horizon, the individuals blend into a colorful mass.
The colors at the bottom are derived from the tones of the brick wall. The work has been treated with tar to endure naturally over time - this also comments on the poster by Kalle Lampela next to it. Close to the piece, one can even sense the faint scent of tar.
The 2022 Art Windows were unveiled as part of the program for the National Heritage Days held in Rovaniemi. The featured artists were Eemil Karila, who returned to Rovaniemi after many years in Berlin, and the artist duo Raisa Raekallio and Misha del Val from Kittilä.
