Yrjö Juhana Blomstedt - Drawing from the Genesis Series
PaintingYrjö Juhana Blomstedt (b. 1937 Helsinki) has been one of Finland’s central artists since the 1960s. He studied at the School of the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts from 1957 to 1961. His thinking was particularly influenced by one of his teachers, Sam Vanni.
In 1966, Blomstedt’s family moved to Paris, which had a significant impact on his international career. In Finland, he served at the Academy of Fine Arts as Professor of Painting from 1985 to 1989 and as Acting Professor from 1989 onwards.
He was a member of the Aloha Group, founded in 1967, and was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal in 1984.
