Laila Pullinen - Ida Aalberg
SculptureLaila Pullinen (b. 1933, Terijoki, d. 2015, Helsinki) was one of Finland’s best-known contemporary sculptors. She primarily worked with stone and bronze, making use of the inherent qualities of these materials. At first glance, her sculptures appear as abstract, organic forms, yet they often reveal suggestions of human bodies in motion. The titles of her works frequently emphasize femininity, referring to mythological goddesses, historical figures, or key works of art history.
Pullinen’s bronze sculpture Ida Aalberg was exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1964 under the title Ritratto di un’attrice (“Portrait of an Actress”).
