Chema Cobo is an Spanish painter (1952-2023). He is one of the members of the Nueva Figuración Madrileña artistic group, a group of acidic and ironic artists who broke new ground during the Spanish transition. He held his first solo exhibition in 1974 at the Buades Gallery in Madrid.

He was an artist-in-residence at P.S.1 in New York in 1981 and participated in the 16th São Paulo Biennial. In 1982, he participated in the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh. In 1983, he was invited to several exhibitions in Europe and the United States, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim in New York. He followed this with a series of solo exhibitions in Chicago, Seattle, Boston, Milan, Rome, Madrid, Bern, and Nagoya (Japan).

In the 1990s, he worked as a visiting professor at the NY Art School in New York, Northwestern University in Chicago, and the School of Art at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The artwork was a part of Roger Broo´s art collection, which was donated by Harriet Silius in 2021.
