Divine Services

The Uspenski cathedral is still an active church, with weekly services every Saturday at 17:00 and Sunday at 10:00. We also celebrate big feasts as well as smaller ones every year, the largest celebrations being Easter, Christmas and the temple feast on 15th of August. The cathedral is also a very popular church for weddings and baptisms, especially during the summer months. Many wedding and baptism receptions are held in the crypt of the cathedral.

Divine services can range from half an hour to up to 4 hours in length. In orthodox services people stand during the service, with a smaller breaks here and there. The chairs that you can see in the cathedral are mainly for people who are not able to stand for the whole service. During the services the clergy burns incense in an incense burner called censer, which is a metal container which is hangs on metal chains. The burning of incense symbolizes prayers rising into Heaven.
