Marika Mäkelä - Mimicry, White

Marika Mäkelä (b. 1947, Oulu) made her breakthrough already in the 1980s and is one of Finland’s most renowned contemporary artists. In her works, colors and various materials are combined with mastery on both canvas and wooden surfaces. The tactile quality of the materials is strongly present in her pieces, and her later works increasingly feature relief-like textures. Despite often using heavy wood, her works are delicate and almost jewelry-like, shimmering with subtle brilliance.
