Maija Albrecht - Sharp Observation
ArtworkMaija Albrecht (b. 1967, Turku) draws the starting points of her work from nature. The sense of comfort and continuity found in the cycle of life forms the foundation of her art. In Albrecht’s work, the relationship between humans and nature is central, yet enigmatic.
Maija Albrecht is a highly regarded printmaker. The artist draws the image as feather-light marks onto a copper plate, from which it is printed onto paper. These marks appear on the paper in varying shades of grey and deep black. Albrecht’s images of birds, beetles and spiders are intimate, yet at the same time universal.
In the work Sharp Observation, the tool used in printmaking - the drypoint needle - has itself become the subject it depicts.
