Antti Kuurne’s work depicts bog burials, which were used during the Iron Age especially in Northern and Western Europe. Not only people but also votive objects, weapons, and jewelry were placed in bogs. Bogs were regarded as sacred and fearsome places, associated with stories of the dead, spirits, and disappearances. “I see ancient tribal cultures, various folk traditions, and stories as an endless source of inspiration. Karelian and other Finnish traditional patterns and symbols have been my main focus in recent years, as well as rock carvings,” Kuurne says.

Error, Jarno Kantanen and Antti Kuurne were the first artists to create works on the Lapinkävijäntie-facing wall of Korundi. The works were unveiled during the Night of the Arts event in 2018 curated by visual artist Samuli Kontio. They are united by mythical imagery of nature.
