The best way to discover Suomenlinna’s more than 250-year history is to join a guided tour.

The history of the Suomenlinna sea fortress comes to life during the guided tour. The secrets of the bastions are revealed, and old memories from the Swedish and Russian periods tell of a time when the fortress was full of life in both war and peace.

Why was the enormous fortress built in the archipelago? Who was the unfortunate Carl Olof Cronstedt? And when did the church also begin to serve as a lighthouse?

The fortress was built across six islands and was meant to be unbeatable, but through its mysterious surrender, Suomenlinna entered a Russian period that lasted 110 years.

During the guided tour, the fortress’s rich history across different periods is covered, and the most important sights are visited, from the Great Courtyard on Susisaari to Piper’s Park and the largest dry dock of the 18th century.

Departure: Suomenlinna Museum
