Sanna Kannisto - Tangara larvata
Artwork*Our favorite*
”What draws me to Kannisto’s photographs is their willingness to position themselves at the boundary between art and science. At first glance, the images seem carefully composed, yet in the end they capture only a single fleeting moment. When wanderlust strikes, it’s also easy to find myself daydreaming in front of these works – imagining what it would be like to join the artist on his photographic journeys to the rainforests of South America.”

Sanna Kannisto (b. 1974, Hämeenlinna) photographs birds that have been ringed by researchers in her field studio. Reed warblers, common rosefinches, pine grosbeaks and others must be released quickly, so there is very little time. Kannisto’s field studio is built from acrylic sheets and fine mesh, allowing the birds to see the photographer and the camera through the gauze wall.
