Mirza Cizmic - Secret of Venus
Painting*This artwork has been selected for the exhibition by the young participants of the Rovaniemi Art Museum’s ArtHop project*
Mirza Cizmic (b. 1985 Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina) lives and works in Helsinki. Cizmic paints with oil on paper, and his dreamlike works, often filled with elements of popular culture, are frequently provocative and disorienting. They challenge established norms and break taboos while stretching the boundaries of imagination. According to Cizmic himself, his artistic practice is connected to his own past experiences.
“My work often features dreamlike and atmospheric ‘domestic landscapes’, figures, and scenes that blend elements of reality, nostalgia, imagination and isolation. Paintings are characterized by intense and emotional scenes, often featuring figures engaged in ambiguous or psychologically charged situations. I would say that my work is not only visually distinctive but also thought-provoking, as it often challenges conventional norms and pushes the boundaries of the imagination.”
