The cathedral is open normally, but the restoration work may cause noise in the main hall. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The cathedral has no ticket sales during the Holy Week (30.3-5.4) and is only open during divine services.


Welcome to the Uspenski Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in Northern Europe and Western Europe. Overlooking the Senate Square and Market Square, this magnificent red church is full of history and offers a calm escape from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city. Come and admire the brilliant religious artworks and architecture inside the cathedral and learn about it's history. The Cathedral is part of the Orthodox Church of Finland which is an autonomous local church under the authority of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

Exceptions to Regular Opening Hours:

Wed 4.3: 9:30-15:00

Fri 6.3: 9:30-15:00

Sat 7.3: 10:00-11:00

Regular Opening Hours (September–May):
Monday closed, Tuesday–Friday 9:30–16:00, Saturday 10:00–15:00, Sunday 13:00–16:00.

Religious services may affect opening hours. Ticket sales end 15 minutes before closing.

Visitor information



Please dress modestly when visiting the church. Men should remove their hats when entering the church. Photography is allowed without flash. However, during religious services please refrain from taking photos or video. Please do not touch the artifacts. Avoid loud conversation and respect other guests. Pets are not allowed inside the church.

The sale of tickets ends 15 minutes before closing. Please check our website/Facebook for changes in opening hours due to religious services.

There's no public toilet in the cathedral. The closest toilets are situated at the Tove Jansson park, next to the tram stop and the K-market. There is also no tower to visit at the cathedral.

Plan your visit

Uspenski Cathedral is easily accessible by tram 4. The nearest stops are Tove Jansson Park and Ritarinhuone. The cathedral is also within walking distance from Helsinki Central Railway Station.

A paid parking area is available on the cathedral grounds. Additionally, a city bike station is located at the foot of the cathedral hill April-October.

The accessible entrance of Uspenski Cathedral is located at the main doors. Visitors arriving by car can access it as follows: Upon reaching Uspenski Cathedral, instead of turning into the parking lot, turn right and follow the ramp up to the upper terrace. Drive around the church to reach the main entrance, where you will find a wheelchair lift. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will assist you with entry into the cathedral.
