Kuutti Lavonen - Girl's Head
ArtworkKuutti Lavonen (b. 1960 Kotka) is among Finland’s most beloved contemporary artists. His distinctive style and themes rooted in classical cultural history are recognizable from afar. Baroque-inspired, expressive faces emerge in his work not only through printmaking but also through tempera and various mixed techniques such as pastel and acrylic, or pastel and gouache. With his strong line, Lavonen portrays the human condition – suffering, love, and mercy. Religious and mythological themes, such as saints and angels, are also familiar elements in his oeuvre.
In Lavonen’s early pastel painting Girl’s Head, alongside Baroque influences one can see traces of Pop Art.
