Lapland Chamber Orchestra
The Lapland Chamber Orchestra – The City Orchestra of Rovaniemi is the northernmost professional chamber orchestra in Finland and throughout the EU. It was founded in 1972 and consists of 19 permanent musicians. The orchestra’s artistic director is conductor John Storgårds, and its principal guest conductor is pianist, conductor, and composer Olli Mustonen.
The orchestra is based in Rovaniemi at the Korundi House of Culture, and as a regional orchestra, it performs throughout the province of Lapland, as well as in the Barents Region and other parts of Finland.
The Lapland Chamber Orchestra is deeply rooted in the present day. Its repertoire prominently features contemporary music alongside classical staples and rare gems from different eras. The orchestra has premiered works by several notable composers.
In addition to offering chamber music concerts, the orchestra organizes open dress rehearsals and artist meet-and-greet events, providing opportunities for the public to engage with the musicians and guest artists.
The orchestra’s work and recordings have received wide recognition.
