8. Other Halls

If you look down from the entrance to the Kansalaistori Square, you will see the Lower Hall where you will find the entrances to the small halls of the Music Hall. There are five smaller halls in total: Organo, Camerata, Sonore, Black Box and Paavo Hall. Each of these halls is designed for different acoustic needs and has its own visual identity. While you listen to this section, you can view pictures of the rooms on your phone.

The Organo hall is designed for organ music, and is used by church music students for rehearsals on three different period organs. The hall has a long-range acoustic that mimics a medieval stone church.

The Sonore Hall is a vocal music hall and hosts at least two opera productions by the Sibelius Academy Opera Class each year. The stage has enough depth for the stage and orchestra.

The Camerata hall is ideal for chamber music and the Black Box is the only hall in the Music Hall designed for amplified music.

Paavo Hall is named after the conductor Paavo Berglund, known as a hard-working practitioner, and the floor of the hall is almost one to one with the stage of the large Concert Hall. This allows two symphony orchestras to rehearse simultaneously in different spaces.

The Black Box is a flat-floor hall with a wide range of performance techniques, particularly suitable for amplified music and lectures. The hall has a retractable and convertible telescopic screen. The use of the Black Box is limited only by the imagination.
